Mei Ling and Jason had the classic terrace-house problem: one narrow kitchen at the back of the house, too small for proper cooking and cut off from the dining area by a wall.
We split the space in two. At the front, a bright dry kitchen with a 3-metre quartz island now opens straight onto the dining area. At the back, a separate wet kitchen handles the heavy cooking, with a stainless-steel worktop, a double wok burner and a hood ducted straight outside, so the smell stays out of the house.
The dividing wall came out with a new reinforced-concrete beam, signed off by our engineer. Built-in cabinets run floor to ceiling, hiding the fridge, ovens and a broom cupboard behind matching doors.
The family stayed in the house throughout. We sealed off the work area, kept a temporary cooking corner running and cleaned up every evening.
